The armillary sphere
The seal at the top is the esfera armilar, the device of King Manuel I and still on the flag of Portugal. The ring around it reads "Por mares nunca dantes navegados" and, below, Casa do Padrão.
Portuguese and English
The text is set in both languages, side by side, saying the same thing twice: that the bearer is received into the honorific guardianship of the Casa do Padrão, and given the keeping of a parcel of the Portuguese shore.
Uniquely numbered
Each one has its own number, written N.º CP followed by six digits. No two certificates share a number.
The plot it names
A souvenir plot at Cascais, where the coast turns from the open Atlantic to face the mouth of the Tagus. See exactly where it is.
The signature
It is signed Casa do Padrão, and under that "Por Portugal · O Guardião", with Cascais named at the foot.
